Q: What is the MAPA Project?

The MAPA Project catalogues and maps conservation in Africa. Our vision is to create a platform to track and map the status of conservation in Africa and enable users to explore that underlying data for the benefit of future conservation efforts.

Q: What is "Conservation at Work"?

'Conservation at Work' is the umbrella association for conservancies and conservation minded landowners of the Western Cape. 

Our mission is to provide sustainable support and representation for the conservation interests of private landowners, 
whilst coordinating and promoting private conservation initiatives and maximising stakeholder support.

Q: When is the workshop?

The workshops will run between the 7 and 8 February 2013. 

Q: What will the workshop cost?

The workshops will be free of charge, pending acceptance through our application process. 

Q: Where are the workshop being held?

The workshop will be held on the University of Cape Town's upper campus. You can find more information here

Q: What can I expect at the workshop?

We'll cover a variety of techniques for using Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Fusion tables in conservation projects. The workshops will be very practical and you will have the opportunity to add content to Google Maps' base map, and create maps of the conservation efforts in your privately protected area. To get an idea of the structure of previous workshops, have a look at a training ran in Cape Town last year.

Q: Is there an agenda?

We will publish an agenda closer to the time on the Agenda page.

Q: What are the important dates I should remember as an applicant?

The closing day for applications is 15 December 2012 22 December 2012. You will be notified of your acceptance on or before the 31st of December 2012. If you would still like to attend the event but have missed the application deadline, you can email alta[at]mapaproject.org and fill in this registration form. Please not that there are very limited space and only a few limited spaces available.

Q: Where can I register for the workshop?

Registration will be on site, on the first day of the workshops. 

Q: In what languages will the training be given?

All Training will be in English

Q: Do I need any prior experience to apply for the workshops?

You do not need any prior experience. However, you will be at an advantage if you have experience in using Google Earth or Google Maps. You do not need any prior experience with GIS to attend the workshops. 

Q: Can I just arrive on the day of the workshops?

We will be unable to accommodate any drop-in participants. If you would still like to attend the event but have missed the application deadline, you can email alta[at]mapaproject.org and fill in this registration form. Please not that there are very limited space and only a few limited spaces available. 

Q: Will there be food available at the workshops?

We will provide lunch and refreshments during the workshop. You will be able to purchase additional refreshments from the various cafeterias on campus.   

Q: What about accommodation?

We do not include accommodation in the workshop programme, but have listed a few recommended places on our accommodation page

Q: What if I don't have a laptop?

Unfortunately we won't be able to provide spare laptops. If you have a serious problem, please email us and we'll try and make a plan for you. 

Q: I can't attend this workshop. Will there be any future events?

We'll announce any new workshops on our blog, newsletter and on our social media channels. 

Q: How many participants will be accepted?

We'll accept around 20 participants in total into the workshop.
